Temporary traffic changes around the University of Wollongong and TAFE NSW will be in place from Monday 3 March to Friday 11 April 2025, to minimise congestion for the start of the university year. 

The temporary traffic changes are as follows:

• If congestion is observed on Irvine Street the Western entry detour will be implemented, and traffic at Irvine Street will be diverted to the University Southern Access Entry (formally Western Access) route via Murphys Avenue and Robsons Road during peak periods.  
• When this is in place Motorists accessing the M1 northbound ramp (towards Sydney) at Northfields Avenue during peak periods will be diverted via Murphys Avenue and Robsons Road. 
• Eastbound traffic will be held temporarily at roundabouts to prioritise motorists entering the University.

Bus access from University Avenue into Irvine Street will not be affected during diversions and outside peak periods traffic will continue to access the University via Irvine Street and Northfields Avenue.

Traffic controllers will be on site to direct motorists.

NRL: Dragons v Rabbitohs at WIN Stadium. NSW Cup kick-off at 12:40pm, NRL kick-off at 3pm and full-time approx. 5pm.

Traffic may be heavier than usual on Burelli St, Corrimal St, Stewart St and Crown St as fans travel to and from the game.

Local roads around the stadium may close before, during and after the game for the safety of pedestrians.

Fans driving to the game on the freeway are encouraged to use the Masters Rd exit to avoid congestion at Mount Ousley Rd, both in and out of Wollongong.

Motorists should allow extra time for parking and be aware of increased pedestrian activity on local roads.

NBL Championship Series Game 1: Illawarra Hawks v Melbourne United at WIN Entertainment Centre. Tip-off at 7:30pm, full time around 9:30pm.

Traffic will be heavier than usual as fans travel to and from the match.

Allow extra travel time on roads including Burelli St, Corrimal St, Stewart St and Crown St.

Resurfacing, repairs and line marking will be carried out on Flinders Street and Bourke Street during the work period. Single lane closures and reduced speed limits will be in place.

Heavy vehicles, including OSOM vehicles, will be escorted through both work sites by traffic controllers. Operators must call UHF 21 on approach.

MOUNT OUSLEY INTERCHANGE PROJECT

Motorists are advised of changed traffic conditions while work is carried out on the Mount Ousley interchange project.

Road shoulder, single lane closures and stop/slow traffic conditions will be in place as required on:

• M1 Princes Mwy between Mount Ousley Rd and Northfields Ave
• Mount Ousley Rd
• Irvine St
• Northfields Ave (including northbound M1 Princes Mwy on and off ramps)
• Dumfries Ave

During the work, traffic control and reduced speed limits of 40 or 60 km/h will be in place at times.

CLOSURE SCHEDULED FOR SUN 9 MARCH HAS BEEN POSTPONED TO SUN 16 MAR

Picton Road between Almond Street and M1 Princes Motorway will also have closures in place on these nights.

Motorists travelling between Wollongong and Bulli Tops will be detoured via Memorial Drive and Bulli Pass and should allow up to 15 minutes additional travel time. 

Motorists travelling between Wollongong and the Hume Motorway can detour via Memorial Drive, Bulli Pass, Appin Road, or the Illawarra Highway (Macquarie Pass).

These detours are not suitable for any OSOM vehicle or any vehicle exceeding 19 metres and/or 50.5 tonnes. Operators of these vehicles are advised to delay their journey as no alternative detour is available.
