Temporary traffic changes around the University of Wollongong and TAFE NSW will be in place from Monday 3 March to Friday 11 April 2025, to minimise congestion for the start of the university year. 

The temporary traffic changes are as follows:

• Traffic exiting the M1 Motorway southbound at University Ave, will be diverted left to make a U-turn at the eastern roundabout. University-bound motorists will then be detoured to the Southern (previously Western) access route via Murphys Avenue and Robsons Road. 
• Northbound M1 Motorway motorists using the Gwynneville exit will detour to the roundabout at Northfields Avenue to access Irvine Street.  
• Motorists wishing to access the M1 northbound from Keiraville and Gwynneville are encouraged to do so from Robsons Road at West Wollongong to avoid delays.

Bus access from University Avenue into Irvine Street will not be affected during diversions. Outside peak periods traffic will continue to access the University via Irvine Street and Northfields Avenue.

Traffic controllers will be on site to direct motorists.

NRL: Dragons v Titans at WIN Entertainment Centre. Kick-off at 6pm, full time around 8pm.

Traffic will be heavier than usual as fans travel to and from the match. Allow extra travel time on roads including Burelli St, Corrimal St, Stewart St and Crown St.

Fans driving to the game on the freeway are encouraged to use the Masters Rd exit to avoid congestion at Mount Ousley Rd, both in and out of Wollongong.

Allow extra travel time for parking and be aware of increased pedestrian activity on local roads.

MOUNT OUSLEY INTERCHANGE PROJECT

Motorists are advised of changed traffic conditions while work is carried out on the Mount Ousley interchange project.

Road shoulder, single lane closures and stop/slow traffic conditions will be in place as required on:

• M1 Princes Mwy between Mount Ousley Rd and Northfields Ave
• Mount Ousley Rd
• Irvine St
• Northfields Ave (including northbound M1 Princes Mwy on and off ramps)
• Dumfries Ave

During the work, traffic control and reduced speed limits of 40 or 60 km/h will be in place at times.
